Litigation Lawyers You Can Trust
Individuals and businesses referred by major insurance and risk management companies have trusted the attorneys of Beckman, Feller & Chang P.C. with their litigation needs for over 30 years. With over 75 years of combined legal experience among our partners, we have litigated a wide range of legal disputes and are confident that we can help you with your situation. While we focus on real estate matters, the insurance defense attorneys at our office have resolved all types of matters that end up in civil litigation.
Our attorneys enjoy a particularly strong reputation as defense attorneys, having built a network of experts and legal resources throughout the San Francisco Bay Area (San Francisco, Oakland, Berkeley and all Bay Area Counties). We are familiar with the resources available to help with defending claims made against individuals and companies on matters that are covered by liability insurance. Because we are not owned by any insurance company, our firm can provide litigation defense services to individuals and businesses, whether or not they have insurance.
Comprehensive In Scope, Effective In Approach
Our case involvement is not limited to clients in the San Francisco Bay Area, Oakland, Berkeley and the Bay Area Counties. We also represent individuals and businesses located throughout California. Areas we commonly handle include:
- Insurance defense litigation
- Construction defects
- Real estate purchases, sales and rental transactions
- Commercial and residential real estate disputes
- Personal injury
- Premises liability
- Landlord Tenant Disputes
“CUMIS” Counsel For Insureds
When an individual or entity learns it has been sued, one of its first steps is to tender the lawsuit to any applicable insurance company, requesting that the carrier provide a defense to the lawsuit in the form of appointed counsel. While Beckman Feller & Chang also acts as appointed defense counsel, we often provide independent counsel, sometimes known as “Cumis” counsel, when the insurance company elects to defend the case, but reserve its rights to determine coverage may not have been required under the policy. Independent/Cumis counsel can help the insured understand the issues associated with that situation, and how to navigate through it.
We have served as non-panel, independent counsel for many individuals and businesses, providing legal services when conflicts and/or reservations of rights mean legal representation will not be provided by house counsel.
