Over the last fifteen years, he has served as outside general counsel to medical device manufacturers, handling product liability claims as well as insurance coverage and contract disputes, among other things. He was counsel to the Buckman Company in the orthopedic bone screw product liability litigation, resulting in the United States Supreme Court decision Buckman Co. v Plaintiffs' Legal Committee (2001) 531 U.S. 341.  He has lectured on insurance issues to the California Association of Defense Counsel, the State of California's Trial Judicial Attorneys Institute and the Primerus Defense Institute.  He serves as an arbitrator with the San Francisco Superior Court.
